Whinfield High Grange Solar Farm Limited
Whinfield Solar Farm is located on grazing farmland three miles north of Darlington, County Durham. Construction was completed in November 2025. The installed capacity is 33MWp with export via a new grid connection.
The solar arrays are spread across six fields surrounding Whinfield Farmhouse. The panels are 550Wp and 545Wp (approximately 50:50) bi-facial modules installed on a ground mount system. There are four 33kV transformers on-site feeding back to a new on-site substation. The inverters have been fenced in so that the farmer can graze sheep in the fields.
Green Cat Renewables (GCR) was appointed Owner’s Engineer in May 2024, shortly after the client bought the partly-constructed project. GCR have supported the client through continuous communication and attending meetings with all relevant project stakeholders on their behalf. GCR attended site regularly, performing inspections of the site to ensure that the civil and electrical elements complied with the design and producing punch lists to notify issues to the seller. GCR also signed off milestone payments on behalf of the client. GCR continues to liaise with the seller to resolve the remaining items on the punch list. GCR also conducted the PAC review and will conduct the IAC and FAC reviews in due course.
